Dear developers,

Please help me to change my old Korsakow software 3.0 into the new one 5.0.3. I have tried to run korsakow.jar file both on Windows Vista and XP but when I click it – nothing happens. I have Java and Flash preinstalled.
What should I do in order to open Korsakow software?

Can you provide us with some details as to what exactly happens when you try to run korsakow.jar? We'll do our best to get you going.

Dear Dreisch,

there is an indication in the forum topic that you have replied, however when I open the topic I cannot see any reply. Could you repeat it again or send it to my e-mail vytautasmi@gmail.com?

Hi michelius,

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having in Korsakow. (As you guessed, we're also having problems with the forums. We're not at all happy with the current website and forums, and should have a completely new website up and running by this weekend.)

Dave tried to reply as follows: "I just double checked on my windows install and it seemed to work. SO… I did a fresh install of windows XP, just to see if I could reproduce it, and if you don't install Quicktime, then double clicking the application file does nothing, in a way that sounds like his problem." So please install Quicktime and let us know if that helps. Dave is now adding an error message to 5.0.3 that will address this.

Thanks for your input and your patience,

Matt

Unfortunately, when I click korsakow.jar nothing happens and there is no any message.

I have installed Quicktime since I was using Korsakow 3.x.

I have the same problem. Nothing happens when I double-click on the korsakow.jar file or the lib.jar file.

What I have: Windows XP Professional on a HP Elitebook laptop. 3GB ram, 2.96 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU

Quicktime 7.6.4 installed

Latest Java version installed

Latest Flash version installed

What I did/what happened:

I downloaded the PC version and unzipped it. After I unzipped it, I have files looking like this in my Korsakow folder. When I double-click the korsakow.jar-file in folder, this comes up. But then nothing happens. It just stays there. There is no process in task manager showing up either.

Is there an earlier version available that I can use for now?

Thanks :)

Hi guys,

Thank you, rmnd, for the very precice and detailed report! This is quite the puzzle. I'm most likely going to end up asking you to try a few things to narrow this down. Sorry you all have been having this trouble.

I'll be posting some instructions later today.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for the quick reply!

You are welcome to email me at raymondmk AT gmail.com. Unfortunately, this is actually my work PC so I cant go around re-installing Windows etc, but I have a 2 year old Acer Desktop at home that I will also test with tonight.

If there is any software you want me to download and run to get some more data on what kind of system (hardware/software) I have, just let me know, and I will run a report for you.

Hi,

Let's try something simple first. Can you try locating and sending me the korskaow log file? Normally you could access it via the Help menu, but since Korsakow won't run… you'll have to open up Explorer (for example) and navigate to

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\.korsakow

(notice the dot in the directory name) where "username" is of course the name of your user account.

You'll find there a file called "korsakow.log"

You can email this to me at dreisch A@T korsakow.ca.

Thanks.

When I emailed you, I received this in return:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    dreisch AATTT korsakow.ca

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.1.1 <dreisch AATTT korsakow.ca>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table (state 14).

So I just uploaded the .log to http://dltq.org/korsakow/korsakow.log :)

(edit: scrambled your e-mail add)

I forgot my own email addy =D Its at .org, not .ca.

I've also noticed something. Based on both your log file and the screenshot you sent me, it seems like our Windows download link was still pointing to an older version of Korsakow, 5.0.0, whereas we're now at 5.0.3.

I've updated the download link, please try again, and sorry for the mixup.
