Several (5 /14) of my students are having difficulty getting K-Film projects that work fine when played locally to play from the server. Because all are working on their own computers/OSes, I don’t yet have info for detailed report, but will collect. Here are details I have, in case you can tell anything from them and suggest what we might try.

K-film at: http://coolstudios.com/110/kana/
“doesn't work off servers but works locally when I view it before I upload it: I'm working off of Windows 7, Korsakow  v. 5.0.4”

K-film at: http://coolstudios.com/110/schulapa/
Project works for my student when viewed locally (but not for me on Mac 10.5.8/Firefox 3.6.3) andd not from link above. Don’t yet have system details from student, but a .zip of the project is posted at: http://www.mediafire.com/?frwmyugj1xx

Same behavior of working locally, but not from server also reported for projects below I tried some on two servers to test (we seem to have a playback problem with K-films on yin.arts.uci.edu at the local browser caching level, but that’s a separate issue… i think).

Troubleshooting suggestions would be much appreciated. We’ll collect system details of playing + non- playing K-films, working to get all running online.

Happily, 9 of 14 projects seem to be working!

Hi jenny,

Based on your explanation I took a look at the films and identified the problem as being related to the windows build. If you like you should be able to verify that windows exports

  • play locally on windows
  • do not play locally on a mac
  • may not play online (depending on the server)

I've fixed the problem and the download page has been updated. The update includes fixes for other issues that have come up since the release. Please let me know if this does address your problem.

Regards,

Dave

By the way, your detailed report on the issue, including the sample links was extremely helpful in resolving the issue and very much appreciated by me since it saved me a lot of guessing and detective work.

Thanks, Dave, for your rapid response and reply! Yes, I suspected non-playing projects were built on windows, but wasn't sure how to tell that from the exported files themselves. Am collecting build info from students to teach them this process of troubleshooting and writing useful reports. So, it's especially pleasing to hear you say my report was useful.  One thing I'm not clear on, when you say:

"I've fixed the problem and the download page has been updated. The update includes fixes for other issues that have come up since the release. Please let me know if this does address your problem"

Does this mean you fixed and updated KorsakowWin.zip so that if my students now download and install your update from http://korsakow.net/releases/K…..kowWin.zip they will be able to open their Korsakow projects (.krw) file with the update, export it, and should then have projects that are viewable cross platform?

I don't have a windows box handy to test this, will ask my students to try, but thought I'd post in case you had the time to confirm this sooner.

Cheers (and thanks),

Jenny//

Ok, we've confirmed for one project that your update addressed the problem. The re-exported K-film now plays at: http://coolstudios.com/110/schulapa/

and cross-platform locally. Thank you so much!
