hi all
an option could be to have a play head to indicate a) where you are in the video, b) how long the episode actually goes for. As I wrote in an email to Matt:
Really basic thing in most HCI is that the user needs to know the scale. On a page the scroll bar tells me this, a book the size tells me, etc. So in video the playhead or something else indicates how long and where you are. But in the k-films at the moment this is contextless. So one fragment might be 30 seconds and other 3 minutes but as a user you don't know this except by having to wait. you can't even scrub through it. This is a problem as it keeps the user very much subject to the time line of your work.
The issue with fade to black is that just tells you the clip is ended, but not how long, so I still have to watch the whole clip to learn how long it is. The other problem with fade to black is that if that is the convention you use to signal the end of the clip (which is elegant) then you can't use it for transitions in any edited sequences, which in some cases might be a problem. :-)
