Hi, not sure exactly what you meant, but I'll try to answer as best I can.

1.

If you are asking about the possibilities of adding SNU's to a film that's already been published without having to re-upload the entire thing, the short answer is that in general its complicated as changes in one place can affect others due to the linked nature of a k-film.

However if all you have done is added some media, created SNU's, and perhaps changed(add/remove) some keywords, you can try the following:

Re export the film locally. This is why it is usually a good idea to keep the most recent export on your harddrive somewhere since you can just skip all the previously exported media.

upload and replace the file data/project.xm

upload and replace the new media files, located in data/video, data/sound, data/images, data/thumbnails. They should still have their original filenames, perhaps with a different extension.

Note that creating, deleting and modifying interfaces potentially affects all exported media.

2.

This is a pretty interesting idea, and something I have given some though to in the past. It is especially interesting since these services already allow the tagging/keywording of media.

These are certainly interesting indeas. Thank you for your feedback, we'll definitely add these to the list of considerations at our next review.

Cheers,

Hi there

I'm a student doing my MA in documentary film at the London College of Communications, I had the great pleasure of finding myself at Florian's presentation at the Documentary now! conference at Birkbeck earlier this year.

Inspired by his work I decided to use the system for a 'behind the scenes' documentary for 'The Rocket Dolls' rock band as they worked on their first music promo video.

The fruits of this experimental labour can be found here

I hope you enjoy it, those of you how have a mind to view, I certainly enjoyed using the system and trying to think about my work in a non-linear way.

Full screen is back! Loving it. Linkable SNUs - loving those, too. I also like the video controls, though they make it a bit less 'korsakowy.' My students and I get a lot of complaints at our showcases about the lack of control (pause, etc), so the controls can help there.

I've been using / teaching with K-Films for a few years now in my New Media Ethnography course. I'm excited to experiment with "database ethnography" in this format. It forces the author and the vuser to contemplate the links between SNUs. Here's a link to one of the better student ones: "My Near Death Experience"

Because I've posted a couple help requests, I thought it polite to introduce myself. I claim to be a media anthropologist and doc filmmaker, but my main identity/activity at the moment is teaching undergraduates in Studio Arts (at UCI) and graduate students in Visual Anthropology (at USC) in the making of digital media (of various forms and genres of these different fields).

I heard about Korsakow from colleagues at the IML but had not yet downloaded and tried it. So, for my intermediate digital arts class this spring, I decided my students and I would experiment with this tool and way of thinking. We all started April, 2010 without prior knowledge of K-filmmaking and have run into a series of bumps, but all in all it's proving to be a great learning/teaching adventure. So, thanks to those who've invented, developed, and support Korsakow.

Hello All,

I used the old version of the Korsakow software to create an interactive film on the http://www.samthewheels.co.uk project. I have still got to get this online.

I use Korsakow running workshops with different people who may come to one session, film something and are never seen again. This bit of footage can be added to the database of films and together make a K film with everybodys contribution used. Korsakow makes it easy to bring together a lot of different voices into a coherent whole.

Helo Project http://www.ucl.ac.uk/helo/

Martin Kolar, UCL, Machine Learning MSc, is going to help out on the Southern Discomfort project with different ideas for buttons to replace a mouse and any java programing? (to be shared under the GNU licence). We will be running a workshop at the a venue in Brighton about Korsakow and different ways you can trigger a K-Film.

4.ip

We did not get the funding form 4.ip as our idea was too technical..... Worth checking out tho http://www.4ip.org.uk/

Southern Discomfort

The Project is coming together and we are using flip cameras as they are easy to use by young people to attach to your body/bike for parkour and BMX filming.

http://www.mutinymedia.co.uk/S.....index.html

Southern Discomfort. See draft press release below.

The De La Warr Pavilion, in partnership with the Towner, Eastbourne, and Willingdon Community School, is delighted to have been awarded funding for an exciting new project for young people from Screen South, the agency for the development of film and media in the south-east region.

Awarded through the Digital Film Archive Fund the project, called Southern Discomfort, will use archive footage of Bexhill and Eastbourne from the 1960s and 70s to stimulate an exploration of ideas of home and identity by a group of young people in each town.

Through a series of workshops with Brighton-based filmmaker George Butler, impressions of each other’s hometowns will be shot and then responded to, creating a dialogue through film between the two towns.

The young people’s work will then be assembled into a new commission, alongside the original archive footage, using an innovative interactive platform (korsakow) , creating a contemporary impression of what its like to live on this part of the south coast. The work will be shared through interactive public exhibitions at both partner galleries and online.

Southern Discomfort will be delivered through the region’s two flagship cultural organisations, the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill and Towner in Eastbourne.

I am a recovering videoblogger that have for a long time been interested in alternative, non-linear, ways of telling a story with video. Or, rather, to let the viewer tell a story with media fragments that I make available for them. However, I have not made a single video (I think) which has further explored this, even though I did make tons of videos during the first years of my videoblogging (04-06).

I heard about Korsakow from Adrian Miles and others discussing it on a mailing list I subscribe to. Having followed Adrians work with interest for quite a few years (although from quite some distance, not really using inspirations from it in my own work yet), I decided that I want to try this out. Try use some of my countless old clips (online or offline) for an alternative storytelling. Un-narrative.

Me, I mostly did talking head videos, or I did videos like this, where the rhytm of text becomes more important than the quality of the image or the subject-matter's interestingness.

Anyway: I am 31 years old, and I come from Norway where I work. I co-organize VlogEurope, which is a yearly small event for videobloggers since 2005.

At the moment, I have quite some troubles getting Korsakow to actually work on my PC, and I look forward to experimenting with the software and getting to know you all.

Best,

AdrianMiles on Play head?

hi all

an option could be to have a play head to indicate a) where you are in the video, b) how long the episode actually goes for. As I wrote in an email to Matt:

Really basic thing in most HCI is that the user needs to know the scale. On a page the scroll bar tells me this, a book the size tells me, etc. So in video the playhead or something else indicates how long and where you are. But in the k-films at the moment this is contextless. So one fragment might be 30 seconds and other 3 minutes but as a user you don't know this except by having to wait. you can't even scrub through it. This is a problem as it keeps the user very much subject to the time line of your work.

The issue with fade to black is that just tells you the clip is ended, but not how long, so I still have to watch the whole clip to learn how long it is. The other problem with fade to black is that if that is the convention you use to signal the end of the clip (which is elegant) then you can't use it for transitions in any edited sequences, which in some cases might be a problem.
