Hi,

Korsakow 5 does not currently do this. When the film is watched to the end, it will show the end screen asking if the user wants to restart from the beginning.

However we will consider this feature for a future release, and we do favour features from version 3.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Jenny,

We've been working on a fix the problem you reported. After some internal testing it seems to work, but we would greatly appreciate it if you (or your student) could take a moment to try this release out and let us know if it fixes the problem.

We would also be very happy to recieve your report, and I would like to thank you for taking the time to compile this information.

The candidate release is available at

Windows: http://korsakow.net/releases/k.....-win32.zip

Mac: http://korsakow.net/releases/k.....12-osx.zip

Here is an idea of the changes in this update to 5.0.4

Can press Command+Delete to delete resources (this should be familiar to Mac users. Windows users can use CTRL+backspace, though it is not a standard shortcut on Windows)

Some issues with subtitles have been addressed.

Fixed a problem where exporting to an external drive wouldn't work

Fixed a problem where exporting h264 encoded media on Windows wouldn't work

Updated h264 export quality

H264 Low is now 400k/s (roughly the same as previously)

H264 Medium is now 700k/s (much higher than previously)

H264 High is now 1700k/s (much much higher than previously)

These settings are hopefully now similar to youtube's 360,480,720p settings.

Of course anyone reading this is welcome to try out the prerelease (and let us know your results), but I would advise not to replace your current version with this and to back up any projects you test using this version as it is still just a release candidate.

yes, my student could export and view successfully on Windows Vista when she used video clips prepared with MPEG-4 compression. I posted the test she sent:

Also, I had my students watch all peers' films and submit bug reports along with their system/browser info. I'd be happy to compile those and send along, if you think it would be useful.

Thanks for your help on this. I believe there may be an issue with H264 video on windows at the moment. That is, with exporting video already in H264 in some cases fails. Can you try preparing your video using another codec (MPEG-4, for example) and letting me know?

"I've been dutifully using the exported movies you gave me on the CD. I've been trying to export the videos, but the ffmpeg program is still shutting everything down."

I have posted the clips she is using--that I processed (on MacG5/OS 10.5.8) and gave her on CD at: http://coolstudios.com/110/man.....ted_clips/

Here are links to screen shots of settings I used
http://coolstudios.com/110/man.....enshot.jpg
http://coolstudios.com/110/man.....enshot.jpg

And below my instructions to student on settings to use.

Hope this gives you an idea on how to proceed.
cheers and thanks, Jenny//

>>> Quicktime Pro:
>>> - under FILE menu, choose EXPORT (not "export for web")
>>> - In dialog box, set "Export" to "Movie to QuickTime"
>>> - Click the "Options" box, then click "Settings"
>>> - Make sure the setting are set to:
>>> Compression type = H.264 (I know some people said they used MPEG-4
>>> video and it worked, but the Korsakow manual says H.264 and this worked for
>>> the test I made)
>>>
>>> Framerate = Current
>>>
>>> Key Frames and Data Rate should be set to AUTOMATIC
>>>
>>> Quality: up to you, but larger files can be an issue over the web
>>>
>>> Encoding: Best-quality
>>> - Then click OK
>>> - This will take you back to first menu, where you can change the
>>> dimensions (size) of exported movie and apply filters (like
>>> sharpening).

Another user has recently reported a simiar problem. I believe this issue is caused by a specific type of video on windows and we are working to resolve it. If you could send me a (small, 5 seconds will do) sample of one of the videos that causes this it would greatly help my efforts in fixing it.

In the meantime, if you could tell me the settings you used in preparing the video I might be able to tell you how to tweak it slightly so as to avoid this issue.

Thanks, Dave, for your rapid response and reply! Yes, I suspected non-playing projects were built on windows, but wasn't sure how to tell that from the exported files themselves. Am collecting build info from students to teach them this process of troubleshooting and writing useful reports. So, it's especially pleasing to hear you say my report was useful. One thing I'm not clear on, when you say:

"I've fixed the problem and the download page has been updated. The update includes fixes for other issues that have come up since the release. Please let me know if this does address your problem"

Does this mean you fixed and updated KorsakowWin.zip so that if my students now download and install your update from http://korsakow.net/releases/K.....kowWin.zip they will be able to open their Korsakow projects (.krw) file with the update, export it, and should then have projects that are viewable cross platform?

I don't have a windows box handy to test this, will ask my students to try, but thought I'd post in case you had the time to confirm this sooner.

Cheers (and thanks),

Jenny//

Hi jenny,

Based on your explanation I took a look at the films and identified the problem as being related to the windows build. If you like you should be able to verify that windows exports

play locally on windows

do not play locally on a mac

may not play online (depending on the server)

I've fixed the problem and the download page has been updated. The update includes fixes for other issues that have come up since the release. Please let me know if this does address your problem.

Regards,

Dave

By the way, your detailed report on the issue, including the sample links was extremely helpful in resolving the issue and very much appreciated by me since it saved me a lot of guessing and detective work.

Several (5 /14) of my students are having difficulty getting K-Film projects that work fine when played locally to play from the server. Because all are working on their own computers/OSes, I don’t yet have info for detailed report, but will collect. Here are details I have, in case you can tell anything from them and suggest what we might try.

K-film at: http://coolstudios.com/110/kana/
“doesn't work off servers but works locally when I view it before I upload it: I'm working off of Windows 7, Korsakow v. 5.0.4”

K-film at: http://coolstudios.com/110/schulapa/
Project works for my student when viewed locally (but not for me on Mac 10.5.8/Firefox 3.6.3) andd not from link above. Don’t yet have system details from student, but a .zip of the project is posted at: http://www.mediafire.com/?frwmyugj1xx

Same behavior of working locally, but not from server also reported for projects below I tried some on two servers to test (we seem to have a playback problem with K-films on yin.arts.uci.edu at the local browser caching level, but that’s a separate issue… i think).

http://coolstudios.com/110/ash.....index.html
http://yin.arts.uci.edu/~stude.....0/ashirais
http://yin.arts.uci.edu/~stude.....0-S10/ngta
http://yin.arts.uci.edu/~stude.....index.html
http://coolstudios.com/110/eyatsuzu/

Troubleshooting suggestions would be much appreciated. We’ll collect system details of playing + non- playing K-films, working to get all running online.

Happily, 9 of 14 projects seem to be working!
